See the project application

There is also applied for a follow up workshop in Finland for 2009 to arrange and report the main findings from two workshops with participants from authorities, managements and relevant R&D involved in developing guidelines and implementation of the water framework directive (WFD) in the Nordic countries. The main aims are exchanging knowledge and experience regarding organisation, existing tools and the implementation processes. The project will focus on river/lakes within the Northern GIG. For these water bodies an assessment and comparison of established systems for ecological classification, reference condition, environmental standard setting and handling of heavily modified water bodies (HMWB) for comparable water types will be carried out. Possible mutual R&D needs for the Nordic region to meet the main objectives of WFD regarding river/lakes will be identified.
